Cairo

In London

‎So we missed our connecting flight and we didn’t make it in time to catch the flight through Edmonton either. So we’re on a flight to Toronto, spend two hours there, then on to Vancouver. We’ll arrive around 1am, instead of the original 4:30pm. We had time in Heathrow to have a little snack and to browse the duty free shops. Now we’re at the...

Still in Cairo

‎ Our flight has been delayed even longer without explanation. We’re finally on board and apparently we’re waiting for “one paper” to be signed, according to the flight attendant. Unless our flight in London is delayed as well, we’re probably not going to make that flight at 3pm UK time. Our only other option after that is a 4:15pm...

Flight to London

Our tour of Egypt is over and we’re a little sad to be going home today. Our tour company picked us up from the hotel and 15 minutes later we were at the airport. They arranged an escort for us to help us through the check in and passport control.  We’re sitting at the gate right now waiting to board. The flight is already 10 minutes late because...

Last Day in Cairo

‎We just finished our last excursion in Egypt. We went to the Cairo Museum this morning to finally see the contents of what was found in some of the tombs of Egypt that we’ve seen. The museum is 3 floors of antiquities, holding 160,000 items on the top two floors. Another 45,000 items are stored in the basement and are not available for viewing by the public...

Lunch in Saqqara

I forgot to mention that just outside the Saqqara pyramids, we stopped at a hotel for lunch. We had a traditional lunch of fresh bread with some dips, eggplant, zucchini and BBQ meats.

There were many cats wandering around the outdoor restaurant. The cat photo is for Dana.

Leisurely Drive To Airport

The video below is just a sample of the driving that goes on here. This is en route to the airport to catch our domestic flight to Aswan. So far as I can tell with the 3 days I’ve been in a vehicle in Cairo, this is pretty typical.

Pyramids, Pyramids, Pyramids

Yesterday was the official start of our tour of Egypt. After a brief overview of all we’ll see and do we were on our way. We spent the day visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza and the step pyramids of Saqqara. It turns out the Giza pyramids were only a 15 drive from us. After pulling into the almost empty parking lot and our guide buying our entrance tickets, we...

Made it to Egypt!

‎The flight from Dubai and Cairo was about 30 minutes late leaving but we ended up gaining some time so we were only 15 minutes late landing. We got lucky with the seats and had the exit row bulkhead. More room than a downtown Vancouver condo! When we landed, we were greeted with stairs off the plane, no sky walk. At the bottom of the stairs we boarded buses and...
