We woke up this morning to the sound of pouring rain and thunder. Definitely going to be an indoor day. During a break in the rain, we walked over to the Louvre which thankfully is only15 minutes from where we are staying. Everything I’ve read online about the massive lineups was true. People where snaked around the fountains next to the big pyramid. However, I found an article a few months ago about a little used entrance into the museum which is about a 5 minute walk from the main pyramid entrance called the Porte des Lions. The article described it perfectly and when we found it, there was no one in line. We walked straight in, paid our money and we were on our way!
Since the museum is so massive, we decided to just focus on the big names. First up, Mona Lisa. We quickly learned that where we found large packs of people is where we find the big name art. Mona Lisa was in the middle of a large room on its own, surrounded by other portraits on the walls around it. We slowly pushed our way into the mosh pit until we eventually reached the front barrier. Unfortunately because she’s so popular, the frame is behind glass, so there is lots of reflection making it hard to get a good photo. After several photos, we squeezed out of the area and made our way to numerous other popular works scattered around the museum. All in, we spent just over 4 hours meandering our way through the Louvre.
I’ll post more photos once I take them off the other cameras we have.
