We woke up just before 10am to ensure we got down to the hotel restaurant breakfast before it needed for the day. We were both a bit tired from the last night’s Carnaval parades.
In the afternoon, we walked the 20 minutes to Ipanema Hippie Market to see what they had. It was similar to other markets we’ve come across in Rio. Lots of T-shirt kiosks, art work, food, let chains, etc.
After the market we headed to Ipanema Beach. It was really busy. There were lots of people in costumes. We also wandered into a street party further down the beach. It was a lot of drunk young people squeezed into a very tight area so we left the party and continued people watching in the less crowded areas.
That night, we got rained out by a thunder and lightning storm. There was so much rain that it felt a little like a flash flood. We didn’t get caught in the rain, but we didn’t head out into it either. A good night to stay in and relax.
