Greenwich

Took a leisurely ride on a river catamaran from the Eye to Greenwich, home of Greenwich Mean Time. Hiked up to the observatory through a really nice park and put one foot in the east and one foot in the west at the top. This is the 0 meridian.  At 1pm, we watched the red time ball drop which was kinda like watching the ball drop in Times Square but with way less...

London Eye

Just finished the London Eye. Much more reasonable line up at 10am. I think we waited about 10 minutes before boarding.   It was a nice, leisurely 30 minute ride above the city. Still no sun, but we were out of time.

Tower of London and River Cruise

We finally made it back to the Tower of London today after attempting to see it on the Sunday after we first arrived to London.  It was a really windy day and still no sign of sun. I highly recommend doing the free guided tour with one of the Beefeaters that live and work there. After just over three hours at the tower, we decided we’d seen all that we needed to...

National Gallery and Harrods

We spent Wednesday morning  walking through the National Gallery. Nice, but not really my thing. No photos allowed in here.  I’m a little concerned about visiting the museums in Paris if it’s going to be more of the same types of portraits and paintings. In the afternoon, we went to Harrods, just to check it out. Very high end! After, we ended up back in...

Shakespeare, Tate Modern and St. Paul

Another grey, overcast day in London. This time, with drizzle! We trying to do all the indoor stuff in hopes of getting some sunshine later in the week. So we headed to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. It was a very good tour as they provide a tour guide with every admission.  It’s not the original theatre, but a recent rebuild based on archeological...

Theatre Night!

We went to see Billy Elliott tonight at the Victoria Palace Theatre. I thought it was great, Eduardo thought it was ‘okay’. He was expecting something a little more over the top, Vegas style since it’s a play by Elton John.   Excellent story and the lead kid can really dance.

The Palace

After Trafalgar Square, we headed down The Mall (the royal road) through the Admiralty Arch to Buckingham Palace. We missed the changing of the guard and the Queen wasn’t home, but it was still nice to see. Busy but not too busy.

Mustard

Mustard in the UK, is NOT the same as in Canada! I found out the hard way today that UK mustard has something hot in it, similar to horseradish. My nose was burning with each bite of my sandwich!

Squares

It was another overcast day here today, but a little warmer than yesterday. We wandered through Leicester Square which was super touristy, then found ourselves on Regent Street for a little window shopping. It seemed to be a mix of low and mid-end stores. Next, I wanted to check out Marks and Spencer and I heard there was a large one at Marble Arch, which was not far...

British Museum

By the time we got back to the Tower of London, it wouldn’t leave us enough time to see it all properly. So, we headed over to the British Museum. Like everything I’ve read on the place, it’s massive. We spent 2 hours there and barely made a dent.
